Canon WP-DC35 Underwater Housing Review

Canon WP-DC35 Underwater Housing for Canon PowerShot S90 Digital Camera

Canon WP-DC35 Underwater Housing for Canon PowerShot S90 Digital CameraPROS of Canon WP-DC35 Underwater Housing
This is a special underwater case, which extends the scope of the S90 for a relatively low cost. The camera goes into simple and safe, has a heavy quality to it (twice the weight of the same S90), and I would also say that it looks nice (orange and blue bling). Best of all, all controls are accessible, except to "turn" the rear wheel, you must press the "S" and left / right. The zoom is easier to use with the housing and out, thanks to the significant financial leverage.

CONS of Canon WP-DC35 Underwater Housing
Canon PowerShot S90 10MP Digital Camera with 3.8x Wide Angle Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3-inch LCD- I found that the case is easily scratched. After a week of release in my dive bag has developed some scratches visible all around, even on the metal around the window in front (aluminum I think), especially on the back where you face the screen. Fortunately, the front glass itself seems to be cured, do not possess at all.
- The included strap is not enough - you can zip close to the wrist, but it's free. I left my camera twice on my recent trip and will be looking for a better solution for when the background is out of reach.
- The front window is rectangular and it is impossible to mount a lens cap (for outdoor) or a wide angle converter (think cliff shots).

Tip of Canon WP-DC35 Underwater Housing
- To use SCUBA real (as opposed to rafting or snorkeling), you will also need two of the four steel plates on the package weight Canon, something that would integrate with the case! Especially since they are cheap enough to develop rust.
- For maintenance, rinse or dip at least the case closed in fresh water, preferably after each dive. Never get wet - you rust. Also, be diligent and lubricate the O-ring with silicone grease times to travel, dive and always check the seal after closure of the case (translucent plastic allows). I've seen a deluge of cases on my recent trip, and it is not only an opportunity to learn or practice of swearing, but probably not covered by insurance.
- Remember the eater of moisture. When you close the case in a warm, moist, cold water will cool the air inside and condensation during the dive. If you really miss and you can not save a Moisture Muncher, try this cool event and the camera in front of the AC in the room and close the fresh air - it will probably still foggy, but you get about 30 to 45 minutes of time " clear "(81F tested in water).

Comment from Customer of Canon WP-DC35 Underwater Housing

At first I was suspicious that I was scratched by S90 for the case, but a good week of practice rather difficult to Baja (I shot 2600 frames) showed that it was unfounded. During this trip I inserted and removed from the care system more than twenty times. The case has very little "feathers" - plastic guides whose ends are covered with bits of rubber - and they make it easy to drive and hold it firmly in place without damaging the finish.

When you use the S90 in the house, you always have access to all controls and function of the camera offers. The design is very clever in that it did not escape the buttons, controls and levers to adjust all the work and crisp. Only the flash is compromised in some way, you add a frosted diffuser plastic that appears on the outside of homes to improve the results obtained using underwater flash. I stopped using the flash at all, as the range of the submarines is very limited.

I think the results speak for themselves, I posted four pictures of my recent trip to Baja. During a trip to snorkel with sea lions were diving. These guys are incredibly fast, they rush toward you and remove the last moment, making them very difficult to photograph. When I returned to our boat, I was very anxious to see what I got - and the combo is S90/WP-DC35 paid well, I guess.

Now that I'm home, I'm going to use this combo as my main camera to use when traveling by kayak. I am very pleased with this purchase and recommend it to anyone who needs a good camera easy to use underwater.

One last thing I recommend you purchase the case is a product called Moisture Munchers. These are small tubes that contain a desiccant. I found that it is possible in the case of one of them, and I felt much better to keep the camera in perfect condition when he spent a week in very humid conditions. During the week in Baja I went with two of these capsules.

CONCLUSION for Canon WP-DC35 Underwater Housing
CONS The list may seem long, but there is no blocking. The sound quality is brilliant, and I do not think you could go wrong with this type of housing unless they were military or tech diving. However, if you're looking to strengthen, in a Ikelite housing is overvalued, and Fisheye produces an aluminum case very comfortable and elegant - the price of two S90s.
